ABOUT us
• Dubai Culture & Arts Authority was launched on 8th March 2008 by His 
Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and 
Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
• The Authority enables and develops the cultural and creative sectors in 
the emirate as the custodian entity, based on its cultural responsibility 
towards Dubai and to help define it in both a local and global context.
• Under the leadership of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin 
Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture, the Authority is 
committed to enriching the cultural scene of the emirate, firmly rooted in 
the heritage of the United Arab Emirates. It is working on building 
bridges of constructive dialogue between various civilizations and 
cultures to enhance Dubai’s position as a global center for art and 
culture, an incubator for creativity, and a thriving hub for talent.
MAJLIS GHORFAT UMM AL SHEIF 
• Majlis Ghorfat Umm Al Sheif is a historical landmark located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is 
a traditional two-story house that holds significant cultural and historical importance in the 
region. The majlis, meaning "a place of sitting" in Arabic, was originally constructed in 1955 and 
served as the summer residence for Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the former ruler of 
Dubai.
• The architecture of Majlis Ghorfat Umm Al Sheif reflects the traditional Emirati style with its 
wind towers, courtyards, and intricate woodwork. The interior of the majlis is adorned with 
beautiful carpets, traditional furniture, and artifacts that offer a glimpse into the opulent 
lifestyle of Dubai's ruling family. The upper floor of the house consists of living quarters, while 
the ground floor features a reception area and a majlis where the ruler would receive guests and 
hold important meetings.
• Today, Majlis Ghorfat Umm Al Sheif has been transformed into a museum that showcases the 
rich heritage and history of Dubai. Visitors can explore the various rooms and learn about the 
customs, traditions, and lifestyle of the ruling family. The museum provides a unique 
opportunity to immerse oneself in the Emirati culture and gain a deeper understanding of 
Dubai's evolution from a small fishing village to a global metropolis. Majlis Ghorfat Umm Al Sheif 
stands as a testament to the preservation of Dubai's heritage and serves as a bridge between the 
past and the present.
