MECHANICAL ENGINEER
WHO LOVES HIS JOB
Jared Eck enjoys what he does as a mechanical
engineer. He loves designing and building complex
machinery that is used by people around the world in
their everyday lives. I feel like I’m helping to improve
people's lives through my work, says Jared Eck as he
goes on to explain how proud he feels of his work every
time someone uses something he designed and built
while they are doing something as routine.
WHAT IS A MECHANICAL ENGINEER?
Mechanical engineers have many different job titles, from
designing medical devices to building factories and cars. They
may focus on energy efficiency or work in fields such as
robotics or aerospace. Mechanical engineers usually need a
bachelor’s degree in engineering to get started with an entry-
level position, but the experience is more important than
formal education. Entry-level positions often require at least
one-two year of experience.
HOW DID I BECOME A MECHANICAL
ENGINEER?
I knew at a young age that I wanted to work with machines. I
loved taking things apart, learning how they worked and
putting them back together again. So when it came time for
me to choose my major in college, it was an easy decision.
But what I didn’t realize was that not everyone loves their job
as much as I do! When asked what my favorite part of being a
mechanical engineer is, it’s hard for me to pick just one thing
because there are so many aspects of my job that make me
happy. I love designing new products and working with a
team to bring those products to life. And finally, I love
getting feedback from customers about how our products
have made their lives easier or more enjoyable it’s amazing
to know that something you designed can have such a
positive impact on someone else!
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I love that I can take a problem, break it down into all of
its components, and design a system that solves that
problem. It’s so rewarding to look at an issue from
every possible angle and to give yourself several
different options for how to approach solving it. And
then when you finally find one that works or even when
it doesn’t work at first but you can see what
adjustments will make it better it feels amazing!
DO YOU RECOMMEND MECHANICAL
ENGINEERING AS A CAREER PATH? IF SO,
WHY?
It’s a great career path because it combines creativity and problem
solving with using your hands. In addition, you get to work on
many different types of projects throughout your career which can
be very exciting. Mechanical engineers are also in high demand so
there are lots of employment opportunities. I would recommend
mechanical engineering as a career path because it offers a lot of
freedom and the potential to do things that most people don’t get
to do in their careers. You have an opportunity to make a difference
in people's lives through building products that improve their
quality of life or help them achieve something they couldn't
otherwise achieve without your product/machine. This is what I
love about my job!
Thank
You
