Jodhpur is known as "The Blue City" and surrounded by golden sands and blue hills. The city's distinguishing feature is its buildings which are painted in indigo-blue.The city served as the capital of Marwar until India's independence in 1947, when it became the seat of a princely state. Jodhpur was also ruled by people from different backgrounds like Meena, Bhatis, Rathores and Mughals. 'Jodhpur' that had 5 gates: Umedpol (north), Gujari (south), Loha (east) and Chandpol (west). Later on Maharaja Ganga Singh turned it into a modern-day city with many palaces like UmaidBhawan Palace or Mehrangarh Fort which has been declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
