lower house of Parliament. Its members are directly 
elected by the people of India through general elections. 
 
Rajya Sabha, also known as the Council of States, is the 
upper house of Parliament. Its members are not directly 
elected by the people but are elected by the elected 
members of the State Legislative Assemblies. 
Lok Sabha represents the people of India and the states, 
with its members directly elected from various 
constituencies across the country. 
 
Rajya Sabha represents the states of India. Members of 
Rajya Sabha represent the interests of the states they are 
elected from. 
 
Members of Lok Sabha serve a term of five years, unless 
dissolved earlier. 
 
Members of Rajya Sabha serve a term of six years. 
However, one-third of the members retire every two 
years, ensuring continuity in the house. 
Powers and Functions: 
 
Lok Sabha has more powers in financial matters, like the 
passage of money bills, as it has the ultimate control over 
the budget. 
Rajya Sabha can only suggest amendments in money 
bills, but it cannot reject or amend them. However, it has 
significant powers in other legislative matters, such as 
participating in the making of laws, approving 
constitutional amendments, and representing the 
interests of states.
