method for laying buried utilities in a fairly shallow 
radius or circle around a defined underground line 
using a flat-bed metal cutter and die head. Flat bed

capable of boring a more complete and complex 
pattern than do most hand tools. While not 
particularly new technology, directional boring has 
become more popular with the growth of HBD 
technology in the past few decades. While it has 
historically been used in the commercial sector, it is 
now becoming more common in the residential and 
even recreational applications.
