Readability is one of the foremost criteria to 
maintain ADA standards for barrier courses. 
The instructors must not place the naked URL. 
Instead, they put anchor text and limits within 
a short sentence to increase readability.
 Simple text design with least variation
Sans Serif fonts like Arial and Helvetica or 
Calibri are recommended to use when 
designing informational material. Sans Serif is 
the easiest to read as this font does not feature 
additional strokes attached to the alphabets 
and punctuation marks. 
 Careful use of images and Graphics
Even images and graphics are bound to design 
according to the ADA regulations as they 
exemplify the content. They must be clearly 
visible, relevant to the content, easy to notice, 
and in high resolution. Animated or blinking 
are better to avoid. 
 Transcription for Audio and Video Items
The audio and video items designed for ADA

sound, minimal background noise, and high 
resolutions clippings, and consistent volume. 
Both video and audio files require written 
transcription, also known as closed-
captioning to meet ADA guidelines.
