 The garbage is an unwanted or undesired material or substance. It is also referred to as rubbish, 
trash, waste, or junk depending upon the type of material.
 The useless and unwanted materials discarded by humans are called wastes. They can be 
biodegradable or non biodegradable.
 The biodegradable wastes can be decomposed by the microorganisms. This waste originates 
from plant and animal sources e.g., dead and decaying remains of plants and animals, faecal 
remains etc.
 The non-biodegradable wastes do not break down into simple and harmless products by natural 
agents such as fungi, bacteria etc. example metallic oxides, DDT, lead, mercury, radioactive 
wastes etc.
