What is Sustainable Fashion
                     What is Sustainable Fashion
                     What is Sustainable Fashion?
What is sustainable fashion? Simply put,
sustainable fashion is an approach and
system of promoting change for the sake of
the environment, animals, and society as a
whole. What is meant by sustainable
fashion? sustainable fashion considers
more than simply addressing current
fashion trends or textile products. It also
takes into consideration issues that include
labor, the environment, and equity in power
generation and wealth distribution.
The term sustainable fashion industry refers
specifically to those in the clothing industry
that are concerned with social justice and
fairness. This industry is deeply involved in
the critical issues of worker exploitation,
environmental degradation, and corporate
control over the production process, while
also taking direct action to eliminate these
problems. The true cost of working
conditions in the clothing industry, which
unfortunately has been a major focus of
negative press and political scrutiny, cannot
be dismissed. Many people are trying to
find ways to make the work life of the
average person more beneficial.
One approach has been to look for ways to
produce, buy, and sell clothes that are both
sustainable and fair-trade. Sustainable and
Fair trade clothing can be made using
quality working conditions, and in most
cases, the clothes will have little or no
impact on the environment in any way. By
purchasing products from small farmers
and artisan workers who live their lives off
the land, the true cost of working conditions
can be greatly reduced. In fact, some of the
best fair trade clothes are not even made
using traditional sewing techniques; they
are manufactured entirely on machines.
Another approach taken by the ethical
fashion industry is to promote organic
fashion choices. These products are
generally made using fair trade and organic
materials and are considered highly
sustainable as they contribute to a healthy
balance of the ecosystems. An increasing
number of designers have become
interested in this concept and are producing
lines that highlight organic fashion. It's
important to note, however, that not all
companies practicing organic fashion mean
that they are promoting eco-friendly
alternatives; many companies simply use
the term in order to differentiate themselves
from their competitors. Still, it's clear that
there is interest in the eco-friendly fashion
industry.

Sustainability Has Spread to Other Parts
Including Sleepwear
The concept of sustainability has spread to
other parts of the fashion industry, including
sleepwear. Sleepwear is not considered to
be sustainable, because materials used in
the production process often come from
countries with poor working conditions.
Some companies that sell eco-friendly
sleepwear, such as Organic Slumberwear,
are consciously marketing the benefits of
sustainability to the consumer. They
recognize that shoppers are becoming
increasingly concerned about their own
consumption and are leery of
environmentally harmful products, and are
open to selling sleepwear that contributes
to sustainability while also providing
comfort.

The true cost of producing certain types
of clothing
What is sustainable fashion? The true cost
of producing certain types of clothing,
particularly mass-produced, low-cost
clothes, cannot be determined. What is
true, however, is that the true cost of a
garment item in the third world country
where it was produced can be much more
than in the United States, Canada or
Europe. What is true, also, is that there is
no way to know the true cost of a garment
item until it has been physically produced.
This is what is known as "fast fashion."
Ethical brands that offer authentic, green
clothes that have been manufactured in the
most ethical ways possible. What is also
true is that an ethical brand can make a
very large impact on the consumer by
purchasing fair-trade clothing and sending
the message about sustainability to
consumers. What is true, as well, is that an
ethical brand can provide excellent
customer service to customers who are
concerned about the working conditions in
countries where the clothes are produced.
What is also true is that buying ethically
produced clothes can help to raise
awareness about the issues that face the
Third World countries where these items
are produced, and can assist those
countries in their efforts to become more
self-sufficient in terms of their industries
and their labor sectors.
