Leuprolide Acetate
 Leuprorelin is recommended for use in the treatment of hormone-
responsive cancers such as breast cancer and prostate cancer.
 The medication comes under the class of medications called 
gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists or GnRH.
 It is used in order to reduce the risk of the premature ovarian failure in 
females receiving cyclophosphamide for chemotherapy. 
Dosage and Usage
 Leuprolide Acetate injection can be used intramuscularly (into a 
muscle) by a doctor or nurse in a clinic once a month or every 3, 4, or 6 
months.
 It can be injected subcutaneously by a doctor or nurse in a clinic every 
1, 3, 4, or 6 months.
 The usual dosage is Leuprolide 11.25 mg.
Leuprorelin side effects
There are some common side effects of Leuprorelin such as 
 Tiredness
 Hot flashes
 Vaginal discharge
 Pain in the arms
 Muscle pain or joint pain
 Spotting or periods
Warning/Precautions
 Bone mineral density changes may occur during the hypoestrogenic 
state.
 Post-marketing signs of the convulsions have been seen in patients 
taking leuprorelin acetate.
 Avoid the use of Leuprorelin in pregnancy due to its embryotoxic effects.
 Genotoxicity studies have been reported with the leuprorelin using the 
bacterial as well as mammalian systems.
