CALCINED KAOLIN
20 Microns is a trailblazer in calcination,
providing globally used fine particle
Calcined Kaolin in ceramics, coatings,
plastics, paper, construction, adhesives,
rubber, and wire & cable applications.
Their extremely fine grades enhance
opacifying properties, gloss, hiding, and
brightness, reducing titanium
consumption and replacing synthetic
aluminum silicate. Innovations include
Hydrophobic and Flash Calcined Kaolins,
offering sustainable solutions for diverse
industries like ceramics, paints, coatings,
textiles, cosmetics, paper, packaging,
pharmaceuticals, plastics, and rubber.
USES OF CALCINED KAOLIN
Calcined kaolin, a derivative of the
naturally occurring mineral kaolinite, has
found its way into a myriad of industries
due to its unique properties and versatile
applications. This refined form of kaolin
undergoes a high-temperature process,
resulting in improved physical and
chemical properties. The calcination
process transforms raw kaolin into a
versatile material that is employed in
various sectors, ranging from the paper
and ceramics industry to construction and
agriculture.
PAPER INDUSTRY
Calcined kaolin plays a crucial role in the
paper industry, where it is used as a
coating material to enhance paper quality.
The fine particle size and high brightness
of calcined kaolin contribute to improved
printability, opacity, and smoothness of
paper surfaces. This makes it an essential
ingredient in coated paper products,
including glossy magazines, catalogs, and
high-quality printing paper.
CERAMIC INDUSTRY
In the ceramics industry, calcined kaolin is
valued for its unique combination of
properties, such as high plasticity, excellent
whiteness, and low impurity content. It is
commonly used as a raw material in the
production of porcelain, sanitaryware, and
ceramic tiles. The addition of calcined kaolin
enhances the firing characteristics, reduces
shrinkage, and improves the overall quality
of the final ceramic products.
PAINT AND COATING
The paint and coatings industry also benefits
significantly from calcined kaolin. Its use as a
pigment extender and functional filler
contributes to improved durability, color
retention, and resistance to weathering. In
water-based paints, calcined kaolin acts as a
rheology modifier, preventing settling and
improving the overall stability of the
formulation.
RUBBER AND PLASTIC
Calcined kaolin finds application in the
rubber and plastics industries due to its
reinforcing properties. When incorporated
into rubber compounds, it enhances tensile
strength, tear resistance, and abrasion
resistance. In plastics, calcined kaolin is used
as a cost-effective filler to improve
mechanical properties and reduce shrinkage
during the molding process.
CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL
The construction industry utilizes calcined
kaolin in the production of cement and
concrete. Its pozzolanic properties contribute
to increased strength and durability of
concrete structures. Additionally, calcined
kaolin is employed as a functional filler in the
production of lightweight aggregates and
construction materials, providing both
economic and performance benefits
AGRICULTURE
Calcined kaolin has found applications in
agriculture, particularly in the formulation of
agrochemicals. It serves as an inert carrier
for pesticides and herbicides, improving their
dispersion and adherence to plant surfaces.
The use of calcined kaolin in agriculture
helps optimize the effectiveness of
agrochemical applications while minimizing
environmental impact.
