A dental operation called an endodontic therapy, commonly referred to as a root canal, is used to treat teeth that have been seriously injured or diseased deep within the pulp and root canal system. Both the method used to clean and sanitize the inner, nerve- and blood-filled portion of a tooth is referred to as "root canal" procedures. This is frequently advised when a tooth has a significant cavity that has reached the pulp, the interior of the tooth, or when trauma, like a crack or fracture, has exposed the pulp.
