In the previous year, physicians were not allowed to offer most Medicare telehealth assistance outside of rural areas. Medicare patients in rural areas could not receive those aids unless they traveled to a health care facility. This forecasted move also opens up possibilities for telemedicine and incident-to-billing. While there are no Medicare arrangements that explicitly prevent eligible telehealth providers from billing for assistance provided incident-to their services, the modern version of direct guidance expects the physician to be on-site, making it difficult to bill services.
