IELTS Assistance
• The International English Language Testing System 
 or IELTS is an international standardized test of 
English language proficiency, 
• Required for higher education and immigration.

the British Council, IDP: IELTS

IELTS Assistance
• The test is designed to test your ability in 
 Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
• Score range; score validity - 0 to 9, in 0.5 band 
increments; 2 years
•   Modules  - There are two modules of IELTS:
General training is taken by the people who want 
to migrate for non-academic purpose and gain 
work experience.
Academic test is taken by the people who wish to 
resume their studies abroad. 
• Offered - Up to 4 times a month. 48 times a 
year
• Duration- 2 hours 55 minutes
Test Format
The test is comprised of four components;  
• Listening:  Duration- 30 minutes + 10 minutes 
transfer time
There is a set of 40 questions in series given to you to 
answer;  you have to listen to four recordings of native 
English speakers and answer the questions.
• Reading:   Duration- 60 minutes
Academic Reading  - There are 40 questions in 
number,  framed as a format of 3 reading passages 
with a variety of questions using number of task 
types.
• Writing:    Duration – 60 minutes
Academic Writing:   Topics of general interest  are 
presented to test takers who wish to enter in UG or PG 
level of study.
• Speaking:   Duration- 11–14 minutes
This component of the test, tests your ability to 
communicate in English.
 
Test Format
There are 2 writing tasks and it is mandatory to 
complete both the tasks
Task 1- A graph, chart or diagram will be presented 
and you will be asked to describe or explain the 
information in your own words
Task 2- You will be asked to write an essay in response 
to a problem or argument. 
Responses must be in a formal manner.
•Speaking:   Duration – 11 to 14 minutes.
Part I (4-5 minutes):  The candidate will be asked to 
speak about familiar topics like, such as home, 
family, work, studies and interests. 
 
Test Format
Part II (2-3 minutes): The examiner will give a card 
and will ask you to speak about a particular topic. 
Part III (4-5 minutes): You will be asked further 
questions based on Part II, to discuss more issues 
and ideas.
