About
Bone plates are like the internal splints used to support and hold the 
bones together. They are like the anchors during orthopedic treatments 
anywhere in our body according to anatomical requirements. 
Tension Band Principle of Plating
Eccentric loading is known as when the bones' load is 
not evenly distributed along their axes. This kind of 
undistributed loading also occurs when there is a 
fracture and one side of the soft tissues is considerably 
harmed, leaving the remaining undisturbed. It distorts 
the placement of the bones, stressing them on one side 
rather than the other.

Screws
It depends on the bone type on what kind of screws are 
to be used. For plating purposes, the screws used are 
usually the kind used for lagging. They can be cortical or 
cancellous screws. Medical equipment manufacturers in

of screw is required, while in others, a mixture of these 
must be applied. 
Uses of bone plates
• They are used at a time when there is a 
requirement to restore the anatomical alignment.
• They are used when the screws alone are not 
sufficient to solve the purpose. 
• When load sharing has to be ensured, when 
proved insufficient, bone grafting might be 
added.
