A chronic type of depression that lasts longer than acute major depressive disorder is persistent depressive disorder. You can feel depressed, lose interest in everyday pursuits, and struggle to finish tasks. Additionally, you could feel despair, low self-esteem, and a feeling of failure. These feelings might last for many years and interfere with your relationships, academic career, and daily activities. The 10th iteration of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) includes persistent depressive illness. Dysthymia is another term for it.
