SACHIN
TENDULKAR
god of cricket
Sachin
Tendulkar
Born in
24 April
1973.
He took up cricket at
the age of 11, and
started his Test
career against
Pakistan at the age
of 16.
Ajit introduced
him to cricket in
1984. He
introduced the
young Sachin to
Ramakant
Achrekar, a
famous cricket
coach.
In 1987, at the age
of 14, he attended
the MRF Pace
Foundation in
Madras (now
Chennai) to train as
a fast bowler, but
Australian fast
bowler Dennis
Lillee, who took a
world record 355
Test wickets, was
unimpressed,
suggesting that
Tendulkar focus on
his batting instead.
In 1988, when he was
just under 16, he
scored 100 not out in
for Bombay against
Gujrat. This was on his
first-class debut.
He scored a century in
all three of his Irani
Trophy, Ranji Trophy
and Duleep Trophy
debuts, and became
the first player to do
so. He was selected
for the tour of
Pakistan next year.
Sachin played
his first Test
match against
Pakistan in
Karachi in 1989
at the age of 16.
HE SCORED A TEST CENTURY AT OLD TRAFFORD IN
ENGLAND, IN 1990. THE ENGLISH WERE HIGHLY IMPRESSED
BY HIS STROKES AND PLACEMENT.
Tendulkar's two tenures as
captain of the Indian cricket
team were not very
successful. When Tendulkar
took over as captain in
1996, it was with huge
hopes and expectations.
However, by 1997 the team
was performing poorly.
Tendulkar was dismissed
seven times in 2007
between 90 and 100,
including three times at
99. Tendulkar has got out
27 times in the 90s during
his international career.
TENDULKAR ANNOUNCED
HIS RETIREMENT FROM
ONE DAY
INTERNATIONALS ON 23
DECEMBER 2012.
On 10 October
2013 Tendulkar
announced that
he would retire
from all cricket
after the two-
Test series
against West
Indies in
November.
Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run
scorer in Tests, with 15,921 runs, as
well as in One-Day Internationals, with
18,426 runs.
HE ALSO HOLDS THE
RECORD OF THE
HIGHEST NUMBER OF
CENTURIES IN BOTH
TESTS (51) AND ODIS
(49) AS WELL AS IN
TESTS AND ODIS
COMBINED (100).
TENDULKAR
