Hansen's disease, or Leprosy, is an infectious disease that lasts for a long time. It is an infection that can cause deformities of the skin, nerves on the body, eyes and lining of the breathing passages. It is caused by a very slow-growing germ called Mycobacterium leprae. Symptoms of the germs infecting the skin may not develop for several years before being detected.
