Four Steps to Brushing Your
Teeth Properly
Introduction
You’ve heard your entire life that you need to brush twice and floss every
day. But have you ever stopped to consider if you are brushing correctly?
As it turns out, there are bad ways to brush as well as recommended
ways.
Steps to Brushing Your Teeth
Properly
If you want to have a successful dental check up and healthy teeth,
use these tips to help you get there:
• Pick the Right Brush
• Pick the Right Toothpaste
• Move the Right Way
• Keep Brushing!
• Finish With Floss
Pick the Right Brush
If you think that large, hard bristled toothbrush you got from your last
dentist is the right fit for you, think again. Your enamel deserves to be
treated gently. Pick a soft bristled brush of a medium size to get the
most effective cleaning.
Pick the Right Toothpaste
There are a ton of options at the grocery store: mint, striped, whitening,
tartar control, complete care, etc… Check for an ADA approved
toothpaste, especially if you’re looking for a whitening brand.
Otherwise, a complete care brand will help keep your teeth clean and
your breath fresh.
Move the Right
WaySave your across motions for the bite surface of your teeth, paying close
attention to the back of your molars. An up and down or circular motion
at about a 45 degree angle is the best way to brush the fronts and backs
of your teeth.
Keep Brushing!
Think your 30 second brush is sufficient? Think again. Brushing helps
to eliminate bacteria that cause cavities and bad breath. But in order
to really do the job, you need to keep brushing for 2 whole minutes!
Finish With Floss
Every time you brush, you should floss as well. Use a length of floss
or an individual flosser to get between teeth. Floss cleans the spaces
between teeth and the space between your teeth and gums.
Keeping your teeth healthy is not a difficult task, and we hope that
these suggestions help you. When you come in for your six month
appointment, you’ll see a difference. If you haven’t scheduled your
next check up, contact Pier Dental Centre to set an appointment.
