Antiemetics medicine

Antiemetics Prevent nausea and vomiting Antiemetics are drugs that are used to cure or prevent nausea and vomiting. They function by either inhibiting signals in the body that cause vomiting or by decreasing activity in the areas of the brain that regulate nausea and vomiting. Antiemetic medicines are classified into numerous classes, which include: Serotonin antagonists: Ondansetron, granisetron, and palonosetron are medications that inhibit serotonin receptors in the gastrointestinal and central nervous system, reducing nausea and vomiting. Dopamine antagonists: To reduce nausea and vomiting, medications such as metoclopramide and prochlorperazine block dopamine receptors, especially in the brain. Antihistamines Antiemetic characteristics of certain antihistamines, such as dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) and meclizine, make them often used for motion sickness and other causes of nausea. Cannabinoids Cannabinoids, such as dronabinol and nabilone, are synthetic cannabinoids that can be used to treat vomiting and nausea caused by chemotherapy or other medical disorders. Benzodiazepines To treat nausea and vomiting caused by anxiety or anticipatory sickness, medications such as lorazepam and diazepam can be administered. Corticosteroids To minimize chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, drugs such as dexamethasone and methylprednisolone are often used as part of chemotherapy regimens. Prokinetic agents To minimize chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, drugs such as dexamethasone and methylprednisolone are widely used in chemotherapy regimens.
