• Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep is supported in both 
Windows and MacOS environments. 
• In addition, all of Tableau’s products operate in virtualized 
environments when they are configured with the proper 
underlying Windows operating system and minimum 
hardware requirements. 
• These virtual solutions include Citrix environments, Parallels, 
Microsoft Virtual PC, and VMware.
How to Download and Install 
Tableau Desktop
• Tableau repository is used to store all the files related to 
tableau desktop. 
• It includes various folders such as Bookmarks, Connectors, 
Datasources, Extensions, Logs, Mapsources, Services, Shapes, 
TabOnlineSyncClient and Workbooks. 
• My Tableau repository is usually located in the file path 
C:\Users\User\Documents\My Tableau Repository.
How to Download and Install 
Tableau Desktop
• To install Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep Builder you will 
need two things; a Creator product key and the installer for 
the version you want to install. 
• For information about what applications are included with a 
Creator product key.
• You need your product key to activate Tableau Desktop and 
Tableau Prep Builder after the install process is finished. You 
can always view your product key in the Customer Portal.
