NANOTECHNOLOGY
NANOTECHNOLOGY
DEFINITION :
A nanometre is a unit of length in the
metric system, which equals to one
billionth of a metre.
Technology is the making, usage, and
knowledge of tools, machine and
techniques, in order to solve a problem
a specific function.
Nanotechnology is the study of
manipulating matters on atomic scale.

Nanotechnology in India
Initiatives such as DST-Nanomission (nano-biotechnology
activities) through DBT, ICMR and CoE in Nanoelectronics by
MeitY support nanoscience, nanotechnology,
nanobiotechnology and nanoelectronics activities.
Eighteen sophisticated analytical instruments facilities (SAIFs)
established by DST across India play a major role in advanced
characterisation and synthesis of nano-materials for various
applications.
CoE in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology established by DST-
Nanomission helps research and PG students in various thrust
areas.
Thematic units of excellence (TUEs) for various areas of
nanoscience and nanotechnology play a major role in product-
based research to support nanotechnology.

Pitfalls of
Nanotechnology
One of the major disadvantages of nanotechnology
at present is that it is very expensive and
developing it can cost a lot of money..
Nanotechnology has put a lot of people out of jobs in
the past few decades.
Due to the development of Nano technology, atomic
weapons can now be made more accessible and can
also be made more destructive and powerful.
Another issue with nanotechnology is that since the
particles of nanotechnology are very minute,
problems can crop up from the inhalation of these
particles.
Conclusion
Nanotechnology has achieved tremendous progress in
the past several decades. It is expected that
nanotechnology will change dentistry, health care, and
human life more profoundly than many developments
of the past. As with all technologies, nanotechnology
carries a significant potential for misuse and abuse on a
scale and scope never seen before.
Nanotechnology seems to be where the world is
headed if technology keeps advancing and competition
practically guarantees that advance will continue.
