What is Prolapse 
Rectum?
A rectal prolapse is when 
portion of your rectum poles 
out via your anus (back 
passage) to form a lump.
The rectum is the last portion of 
your bowel. You might observe 
the rectal prolapse when you 
are having a bowel movement. 
But it can also occur when you 
cough or sneeze, or even when 
you are doing routine activities 
like walking or standing up. 
Types of Rectal 
Prolapse
 Full-thickness rectal prolapse is when 
portion of the wall of your rectum 
poles out via your anus. This is the 
most noticeable kind of rectal prolapse 
and so is the kind of prolapse patients 
most commonly see their clinician 
about.
 Mucosal prolapse is when only the 
lining (mucosa) of your rectum 
branches out via your anus.
 Internal rectal prolapse is when your 
rectum pleats in on itself but doesn't 
poke out via your anus. This is also 
recognized as an internal 
intussusception.

Symptoms of Rectal 
Prolapse
Finding it demanding to control your bowel 
movements. You might find you have passed 
some faeces (motion) when you didn’t intend to
having some bright red blood or greasy mucus 
coming from your rectum
feeling some discomposure or pain
You might be able to shove any lump or 
inflammation back in by using your fingers. But 
this might become more challenging and the 
lump might poke out again as soon as you 
thrust it back in. Ultimately, you might not be 
able to shove it back in at all. If you have an 
internal rectal prolapse you might feel as 
though you are not completely clearing your 
bowels, instead of noticing a lump. If you think
