About of Odissi Indian Classical Dance
Odissi dance is from the state of Odisha in eastern
India and is one of the oldest surviving Indian dance
forms. Odissi or Orissi is one of the pre-eminent
classical dance forms of India which originated in the
Hindu temples of the eastern coastal state of Odisha in
India. Age-old tradition of Odissi is manifested from
Odisha Hindu temples and various sites of
archaeological significance that are associated with
Jainism, Hinduism and Buddhism, the sculptures of
which adorn dance postures of this art form.
Ragini Vecham
Ragini is an Odissi Indian Classical dancer and a
discipline of Guru Shradha, a non-profit organization
and a dance institution in North America. It was
founded by a celebrated Odissi dancer and an inspiring
teacher, Niharika Mohanty. Ragini has her dance
training at a young age from Guru Protima Bedi and
she has also taken additional training from Guru
Kelucharan Mohapatra. Today, Ragini Vecham is at
Guru Shradha with her two daughters, and also serves
her institution as a fundraising lead. She looks forward
to teaching the essence of Indian classical dance and
giving dance the touch of tradition.
