Retinitis pigmentosa, also known as RP, is a rare eye condition that affects the light-sensitive layer of the retina. The type of vision loss can vary. Patients with retinitis pigmentosa may lose their vision, but not completely. But most lose their vision. Retinitis pigmentosa is an inherited eye condition.
