What is Sitelock CDN?
Defining CDN and How they function
To begin, it’s important to understand what a
Content Delivery Network (CDN) is. Basically, a
CDN is a group of servers that are placed in
various parts of the world to better relay website
content to global users.
Think of it as a parcel sorting center that
receives different packages from senders from
everywhere in the world, before sending them
out to their respective recipients.
How CDN
Function?
When a website is supported by a CDN, a request a user makes doesn’t travel as
far is it necessarily should depending on where a site’s host origin is.
When a website isn’t supported by a CDN, this could delay loading a page
because a request has to make it to the country where the origin host is located.
That being the case, the physical distance has a massive impact on one’s
browsing experience.
Advantages of CDN
As mentioned earlier, a CDN functions to
improve the virtual distance between a server
and a visitor’s actual geographic location. For
this to work, CDNs keep a cached version of a
site’s content in several geographical places.
These are referred to as PoPs. When a CDN
provider has multiple PoPs around the globe,
that means their reach is wider.
