Does Protein Powder Make You Fat?
Becoming fat depends on a lot of things – your genes, your diet, your
exercise routine, your lifestyle, your state of health, etc. Protein
powders are really popular these days in the field of nutrition or fitness.
Protein powders are not harmful by themselves, but we need to keep in
mind a few things:
• Milk vs. Water: If you have protein powder with milk then it can make
you fat. This is because milk has a lot of fat. Whereas having it with
water can help you develop lean muscle. There are other ways to
have protein supplements too, like in desserts, etc.
• Certification: Check if the whey protein powder has been tested by a
third party and the protein source is genuine. Don’t buy products
from unknown dealers or sites. Always check the brand details and
the product details. Fake products contain fats, oils, steroids,
hormones, etc.
• Ingredients: If you are buying Whey Isolate, then check the order of
the ingredients. If Whey Concentrate is mentioned before Isolate,
don’t buy the product as it will have very less Isolate. Check the
ingredients of the protein powder.
Other things that are important are your diet (always have a balanced
diet), and your lifestyle (don’t be sedentary). Don’t rely only on
supplements as there is only so much they can help. Instead of
following something you read online, always check with your
nutritionist about how much supplement to take daily (scoops, etc.).
Some people take protein supplements in excess and they don’t really
need it.
