Can I Save Money Repairing My Own Concrete? Sometimes "do it yourself" solutions are the most cost effective for homeowners. In the case of concrete repair, however, it's much more cost effective to hire an experienced, professional concrete raising contractor. Here are some reasons why. Contractors are insured. Contractors have experienced, trained crews to do the work. Contractors have the tools needed to complete the job. Homeowners typically don't have metallic epoxy flooring tavares fl the experience necessary to do the job properly. So if you tackle the job yourself and do it poorly, you'll still have to pay a professional to complete the work It's usually worth paying to avoid the time and hassle required for a homeowner to fix concrete. I recently spoke with a homeowner who took on the task of replacing a couple sections of concrete sidewalk that were cracked and sunken. The homeowner, not knowing that concrete raising even exists as an alternative, decided that removing his old concrete and replacing it with new was his only option. He rented a mixer, purchased 12 bags of concrete, a trowel, and some forming material. This cost him about $175. He already had a sledge hammer and shovels and such. With everything going according to plan, he spent all day Saturday demoing and removing the old concrete, making a nice pile to go... somewhere. He prepped the area and got it all formed up. Then the mixing began. After a full day of hard labor, the new concrete was in place and leveled off, it didn't look too bad, but it wasn't quite like he had seen down the street, which had some light lines in it (broomed). Not knowing he needed to broom the finish, his new concrete was smooth and it was too late at that point. The end result was a tired and sore homeowner, with smooth sidewalk sections, a day of time, and $175 less in his pocket for an "almost OK" project. Oh, and he also had a pile of busted-up concrete to get rid of. Sound like fun? For just less than $400 in most cases you could hire a concrete repair contractor to raise the sidewalk up and to caulk the crack and seal it up, leaving a clean, even, repaired sidewalk in about an hour's time. When it comes to concrete repair around your home, hire a professional. They have the equipment and the experience, they should be insured, and they can save you money.
