Market Definition & Scope
A decanter is a specialized industrial machine used for the separation of liquid and solid 
components from a liquid mixture or slurry. It operates based on the principle of gravity 
settling and mechanical separation. The main components of a decanter include a rotating 
drum or bowl and a screw conveyor within the drum. When the mixture is fed into the 
decanter, the centrifugal force generated by the rotating drum causes the heavier solids to 
settle at the bottom while the lighter liquid phase is discharged from the top. The screw 
conveyor then conveys the separated solids out of the decanter. Decanters are commonly 
used in industries such as wastewater treatment, food processing, and the oil and gas 
industry for processes like dewatering, thickening, and clarifying.
