Tapputi was a woman who lived in Mesopotamia around 1200 BCE. She was one of the first known 
chemists who make perfume. As a perfumer and palace oversee, she distilled flowers and other 
materials to create perfumes. Tapputi described a process of distillation and filtration using a still, 
making her reference to this apparatus the oldest in human history. She had knowledge of chemistry 
and technical processes like extraction and sublimation to develop perfumes for cosmetic and religious

Perfume notes are the individual scent layers of ingredients that make up a fragrance. It is denote 
groups of scent which can be sensed with respect to the time after the application of perfume.
Notes are separated into three categories : 
● Top (head notes)
● Middle (heart notes)
● Base (soul notes)
Top Notes : These are the first scent you smell when you applying the fragrance. They are usually 
light, fresh and volatile. They quickly evaporate, often lasting for a few minute to an hour. A citrus, 
light fruits and herbs are the common fragrance of the top notes.
Middle Notes : It is also called the heart notes. The middle notes are the scent of perfume that appear 
just before the top note faded. The common fragrance of middle notes are rose, lemon, lavender and 
jasmine.
Base notes: Base notes are appear while middle notes are fading. The base and middle notes are the 
main theme of perfume. In this common fragrance include are sandalwood, vanilla, amber and musk.
