With an emphasis on airline corporate identity initiatives and aircraft interior design, Je
nnifer Coutts Clay, Principal of J. Clay Consulting, is an expert in aircraft cabins who o
ffers technical guidance and marketing support to the aviation sector. Short-
haul and long-haul airlines, aviation suppliers, law firms, and design experts are just a 
few of the many companies she has worked with.
Jennifer gained extensive experience in marketing and operational management assig
nments throughout the airline network while working for British Airways in the 1970s. 
She became the first woman to hold the job when she was named Head of Operations 
and Sales for Western USA in 1979. 
In 1982, when the airline was a launch client for the Boeing B737 and B757 aircraft util
ized o 
The UK shuttle routes, she assumed the position of Head of Operations and Sales for 
Scotland.
Jennifer was promoted to Controller of Corporate Identity in 1984, where she was in c
harge of carrying out the US$75 million "privatization initiative" related to British Airwa
ys' shift from government to private ownership. 
The project encompassed all facets of the airline's and its sub-brands' visual identities, 
including executive offices, ground vehicles, baggage tags, signs, employee uniforms, 
name badges, passenger documents, and airport check-in and lounge areas. 
It also contained design plans for the Concorde's interior and appearance as well as th

In 1986, Jennifer became General Manager, Product Design & Development at Pan A
merican World Airways. She oversaw a three-
year fleet upgrade initiative in this role, overhauling every significant facet of Pan Am's 
passenger service offering. 
Jennifer was instrumental in the creation of the design execution plan for the interiors 
of the Airbus A310-300 and ATR42, which the airline was then a launch client for.
