The sport Kabaddi is very ancient and has been a part of the Indian culture for over 4000 years, since the Mahabharata. In Maharashtra, Kabaddi was called Hututu. In Bengal or Eastern part of India, it was called Hadoodo. In Andra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, it was called Chugudu. In Northern parts of India, Pakistan and Afghanistan, it was called Kabaddi. The journey of Kabaddi since the pre-independence era played in various regions with different names has been tougher than imagined.

To get the sport under one set of rules, forming of its federation and then taking it on to
the international level was a daunting task. Kabaddi now has evolved over the years from its
humble origins to become the second most viewed sport in India. It is included in the
Asian Games, Asian Indoor Games and Asian Beach Games. Soon it will be a part of
the Commonwealth Games and then the Olympics. This report showcases The Journey of
Kabaddi from how it all started and now it is played as an international sport in India.
