Coverage
Medicare's coverage of nursing home care is often misunderstood. It's 
important to know that Medicare generally does not cover long-term stays in 
nursing homes. However, it does cover certain aspects of short-term care under 
specific conditions.
Short-Term Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Care
Medicare Part A covers short-term stays in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) under 
these conditions
A hospital stay of at least three days before admission to an SNF.
Admission to the SNF within a short time (usually 30 days) of the hospital 
discharge.
Care needed must be for a condition treated during the hospital stay or a 
condition that arose while in the SNF to treat the original hospital condition.
