Hormones keep our bodies in check and balanced. For example, your height increases when the pituitary gland produces growth hormone, which regulates somatic cell division and height. Gigantism occurs when this hormone is overproduced, whereas dwarfism occurs when it is underproduced. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreatic alpha cells of Langerhans. When you ingest carbohydrates, your body breaks them down into glucose. Glucose is taken into circulation once it is released in the ileum. It stays in the blood since glucose is the major energy.
