The 2018 Commonwealth Games, formally referred to 

as XXI Commonwealth Games and generally also called 

Gold Coast 2018, is a worldwide multi-sport event for 

people from the Commonwealth. Presently being held in 

the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia between 4 April  

to 15 April 2018. The winning bid was announced in 

Basseterre, Saint Kitts, on 11 November 2011. It's the 

fifth time Australia is the host for Commonwealth Games.


Host selection

On 22 August 2008, the Premier of Queensland, 

Anna Bligh, formally launched Gold Coast City's bid 

for hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2018. On 7 

April 2009, the ABC reported a land exchange deal 

between Gold Coast City and Queensland for 

Carrara Stadium. 


Venues

The idea  for Carrara Stadium, Carrara Sport and Leisure Center.

Decided venues were Central Gold Coast City, North Gold Coast 

City and South Gold Coast City. The only sports being held outdoors 

of Gold Coast City are track cycling and  Basketball that is being 

held in Queensland and Cairns or Townsville and the shooting is 

being held in neighboring Belmont.
