Dental veneers are custom made tooth shells that are usually applied over the tooth surface. They aim 
at covering the enamel of the worn-out tooth and help with getting the scratchy tooth aligned. They also
help in covering up the spaces, cracks and chips of the teeth with ease.
Dental veneers are good alternatives for teeth that have lost color or shape or have become crooked. 
They can also be used to remove the gray or yellow tinge that has got settled on the surfaces of the 
teeth.
Dental veneers, in short, are one of many utile components that are becoming increasingly used in 
cosmetic dentistry. They end up being the panacea for worn enamel, chips, cracks and unevenness that 
might have become visible due to wear and tear, the congenital abnormal spacing of teeth.
Types of Dental Veneers
Dental veneers can be of two types. They can either be ceramic/porcelain veneers or resin-based 
composite veneers. Ceramic veneers are expensive and long-lasting. However, proper maintenance and 
regular dental care and render a lengthy life for dental veneers.
Ceramic Veneers
Ceramic veneers are usually fabricated at a dental laboratory. Positioning the ceramic dental veneers to 
suit the shape and appearance of the patient's teeth might require a few visits to the dentist. Ceramic 
veneers are shells that are very thin and are usually comprised of dental ceramics.
During the first visit to the dentist, the enamel in front and sides of the patient's teeth is removed. This 
helps in ensuring that the dental veneers do not become an ill fit later. Further, the dentist creates an 
impression of the groomed teeth so that the shape of the prepared teeth and its surroundings are 
duplicated at the dental clinic.
This duplication is then sent to the dental lab for the fabrication of ceramic veneers and this process will 
probably take some time. Once the veneers are ready, the patient is asked to get back to the dentist. 
Further to this, the dentist places the ceramic veneers on the teeth of the patient to ensure they are in 
the right size and shape, after which, they are bonded to the teeth using dental cement. If ever the 
patient requires further modifications or adjustments regarding the placement of the veneers, he can 
get it done during the succeeding visits to the dentist.
Resin-based Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are usually positioned on the patient's teeth during a single visit at the dentist's 
clinic. In the first place, the dentist prepares the teeth of the patient by the removal of the enamel in the
front and the sides of the teeth. Following this, he places the composite material onto the patient's 
teeth in a color that best suits the patient's natural teeth. The composite is hardened with the assistance
of a special light and further polished and adjusted to fit the patient's teeth
