The Hope Mars Mission which is also
called the Emirates Mars Mission is the
first uncrewed, interplanetary mission that
is spearheaded by the United Arab
Emirates (UAE).
In fact, the Hope satellite is the first
planetary science mission that is being led
by an Arab-Islamic country.

Important Things You Should Know About UAE’s
Space Mission
At launch, one of the spacecraft's goals
was to map how much water there is on
Mars. This information could help future
missions determine whether a network of
deep aquifers exists below the Martian
surface.
This mission was also undertaken to mark
the 50th anniversary of the UAE.

About the Hope Spacecraft
In 2021, the Hope Mars Mission
was launched to study the Red
Planet.
Equipped with four to six Delta V
thrusters and highly volatile and
inorganic hydrazine fuel, it is set
Mars to study our neighboring planet
Mars after seven months of space
travel to get to the red planet.

About the Hope Spacecraft
It will operate for an entire Martian
year (687 Earth days) to fulfill its
scientific goals.
The total mass including the fuel
is about 1,500 kilograms and has
the weight and size of a small car.
Mars The mission may get a two-year
extension if it works successfully.

The UAE's Hope Mars Mission
The Hope Mars Mission (also known
as Hope ELITE) will be the first space
mission to Mars conducted by the
United Arab Emirates and is part of
their Emirates Mars Mission 2020
program.
The spacecraft for this mission was
assembled in the United States at the
University of Colorado Boulder's
Laboratory for atmospheric and
space physics (LASP). It was done
with the support of Arizona State
University (ASU) and the University
of California, Berkeley.

The UAE's Hope Mars Mission
The mission will study daily and
seasonal weather cycles, weather
events in the lower atmosphere such
as dust storms, and how the weather
varies in different regions of the
planet.
It will also add to knowledge about
Mars's atmospheric hydrogen and
oxygen loss and other possible
reasons behind the planet's drastic
climate changes.
It has special instruments to measure
weather conditions and is not like the
outdoor weather stations we use.

The UAE's Hope Mars Mission
The mission is being carried out by a
team of Emirati engineers in
collaboration with foreign research
institutions and is a contribution toward
a knowledge-based economy in the
UAE.
The Emirates Mars Mission was
launched toward Mars during the July
2020 Mars launch window. The
spacecraft was launched from the
Tanegashima Space Center in Japan
with a Japanese rocket, the Mitsubishi
Heavy Industries H-IIA launch vehicle.

The UAE's Hope Mars Mission
The spacecraft performed a successful
orbit entry maneuver on the 9th of
February 2021 and it also became the
second country to successfully enter
Mars' orbit on its first try.

What is the Aim and Importance of the UAE Mars
Mission?
The Hope Mars Mission will provide more data on what
scientists have learned from the MAVEN mission by studying
Mars’ upper atmosphere and watching traces of hydrogen and
oxygen.
These are the remnants of Mars’ wetter days in the past.
The spacecraft will also study how the planet’s upper and
lower atmospheres interact with each other.
It has a high-resolution digital camera that will capture
stunning pictures of Mars.
Its primary science mission and study of Mars is planned to
last for at least 2 years if everything works fine.
It is a proud moment for the UAE and brings many countries
together since it involves the US and Japan to make this a
successful mission.
