By 2050 the number of senior citizens across the world is projected to grow to more than 2 
billion people. Indian seniors alone, at 320 million, will account for about 16% of these. This 
demographic group is expected to comprise nearly 60% of consumption growth in Europe and 
Asia from 2015 to 2030 and presents an unprecedented opportunity in the Silver Economy – a 
band of products and services along the continuum of senior citizens’ wants and needs.
The Silver Economy – identified in 2017 by Credit Suisse as one of five ‘Supertrends’ or long-
term investment themes – is centred on the specific needs of senior citizens and their 
consumption of goods and services. It is not so much a “market” as a cross “economy” that 
impacts every market and industry, such as: home accommodation, transport, food, insurance, 
robotics, wealth management & pension, healthcare and e-health, communications, technology,
