While lifting at work, I felt a sharp pain but thought I could work it out. The next
morning I was in severe pain and was unable to get dressed or lift my right arm. I went
to the Occupational Health clinic and was given medication and some exercises. After
no relief, I was sent to an orthopedic physician two weeks later. An MRI revealed that I
had a partial-thickness rotator cuff tear and injury to my bicep tendon. I had the option
of trying telerehab, and because I had a hard time driving with only one arm, I decided
that was my best option.
On my first visit, I was impressed with the knowledge of my clinician and how thorough
the evaluation was. I was seeing someone virtually, and they looked closer at my
shoulder movements than anyone in person. By the end of that first visit, I was able to
lift my arm slightly overhead. My clinician explained to me that along with the MRI
findings, I also had a tiny piece of cartilage that was getting pinched in my joint. She
gave me an exercise to help move it out of the way. Immediately after doing the
exercises, I was able to move further with less pain.
After only 4 visits, I went back to my doctor and told him that I was ready to go back to
full duty because I no longer had any pain.
