The Khewra Salt Mine, one of the biggest 
and oldest salt mines in the world, 
produces about 800 million pounds of 
Himalayan pink salt per year. The salt 
deposits of the Khewra Salt Mine are the 
evaporated salt deposits from a 600 
million year-old seabed. Salt blocks are 
cleaned and quality-checked after being 
hand-mined for salt crystals. The salt is 
subsequently processed into items like 
natural salt lamps or milled into a fine 
size for human use.
Himalayan Pink Salt Vs 
Table Salt
In that it comprises 98 percent sodium 
chloride, the primary component of salt, 
Himalayan pink salt is identical to table 
salt. However, unlike table salt, pink salt 
also contains trace minerals including 
potassium, magnesium, calcium, and 
iron, which give it its value and pink 
color. Up to 84 minerals can be found in 
himalayan salt. While pink salt is not 
refined, table salt is processed to 
eliminate impurities and contains 
chemicals like anti-caking agents.
