Mutual funds, whether held through direct or regular plans, are ultimately just tools. They are vehicles for accumulating capital, but capital itself has no inherent value except as a means to an end. The end is your life: the education of your children, the security of your retirement, the freedom to pursue your passions, the legacy you leave behind. The true measure of a financial strategy is not its rate of return in isolation, but how effectively it enables you to achieve these life goals. This is where the fundamental limitation of direct plans becomes most apparent. Direct plans exist in a vacuum; they are simply investment accounts. They provide no framework for connecting your investments to the broader context of your financial life.
