What Is A Venous Leg Ulcer? A venous leg ulcer, also known as stasis, insufficiency, or varicose ulcer is a common type of chronic wound that occurs due to poor blood circulation in the limb. It usually takes more than six weeks to heal as the veins in the legs are insufficient to carry blood back to the heart, causing increased pressure in the veins. In other words, a venous ulcer is caused by a malfunctioning of venous valves. It typically occurs on the legs or foot and can last anywhere from a couple of weeks to years.
