How to Pull Pre-terminated Fiber Optic Cable
• Now we shall learn about how to pull the pre-terminated 
fiber optic cable in a step by step method.
• There are 5 steps to follow to successfully pull the pre-
terminated fiber optic cables.
Step 1: Inspect the spool
• Most cable manufacturers provide a spool 
of fiber optic cable that is pre-terminated 
as per your requirements. Always ensure 
that the cable is connected to the pulling 
eye as shown in the image.
• The pulling eye is nothing but a strong 
cord that is connected to one end of the 
optical fiber in a loop. Those installing the 
fiber will connect the loop to the fastener to 
pull it across narrow terrains. Ensure the 
pulling eye socket is not entangled with 
any connectors, else they will rip out at the 
time of pulling.
Step 2: Connect the pulling eye to the fastener
• The next step would be to connect the 
fastener to the pulling eye socket. 
• The fasteners one end is connected to the 
loop and the other end is connected to the 
winch or automated puller.
Step 3: Add some lubricant to the pulling socket
• Next step would be to add some lubricant 
to the pulling eye.
• This allows the cable to pass through 
narrow ducts or tight areas without any 
friction
Step 4: Pull!
• Once lubed, the only thing remaining is to 
pull the cable with appropriate pulling 
tension. 
• Depending on the elevation, and  the 
tightness of the ducts, you may need some 
extra elbow grease. 
Step 5: Remove the pulling socket and check the 
continuity
• Now all that remains is to check the 
continuity.
• And remove the pulling eye socket after 
successful installation.
