The Covid-19 crisis has brought the entire world 
to a standstill. At the pace at which technological 
development was taking place globally, we felt 
that the control of everything in this world is in 
our hands and we can change whatever we 
wished to change.

However, this pandemic has brought us to the 
conclusion that we all are mere players in the 
hands of nature which we had been taking for 
granted for several decades together. It had 
been sending signals in one form or the other to 
mend our ways but we have been ignoring it 
impertinently.

BOON 1
No exhausts from factories, no fumes from cars, 
cleaner rivers and oceans, clearer skies, and 
fresher air to breathe.

As a result of which, we could see a lot of 
species of birds, insects, and animals which had 
long been lost due to our indiscriminate play 
with the environment. 
For instance, there was a day when a Neelgai 
was found roaming on the roads of Noida which 
before commercialization was once arable land.

The Himalayas could be sighted from Punjab, the 
skies have never been bluer over Delhi.

Animals have got the free will to wander during 
the lockdown. These changes could be transitory 
but a healing moment for nature. On the other 
hand, this could be a lull before the storm, 
emissions could shoot up to catastrophic levels.

GLOBAL PANDEMIC: A BANE
BANE 1
The lockdown led to a mad rush of stocking up 
on groceries. These plastic bags used to be 
reused. But now due to the fear of corona we 
discard the bags immediately. We are enhancing 
the amount of garbage going out of the house.

BANE 2
The use of disposable masks and other PPE like 
gloves, face shields, uniforms is harmful to the 
environment. Landfill sites and water bodies are 
getting choked with all this waste.

The World Economic Forum envisages that there 
will be less fish and more plastic in the ocean by 
2050.
