INDIA WAS ONCE AN
ISLAND
More than a hundred million years ago, the bulk of
what is now India was an island.
Actually, the land was part of a supercontinent
called Gondwanaland, which broke apart and shifted
to the north.
About 50 million years old, Asia collided with the
continental plate.

INDIA NAMED AFTER A
RIVER
The nation called after the Indus River that passes
through India and Pakistan, (which was a part of
India pre-Independence in 1947).
Although the name 'India' is comparatively recent,
it had been named Hindustan by Muslim invaders
who invaded India before the British Raj, also a
derivative of the Indus River name. The term
'Hindus' derives from Indus as well.

INDIAN CIVILIZATION PRE-DATES
THE EGYPTIANS
The Indus Valley Civilization, far older than its oldest
rival, the Egyptian Civilization, is arguably the oldest in
the world.
New research indicates that 8,000 years old is the
civilisation that existed in India and Pakistan - 2,500
years earlier than scholars historically believed it was.
In the other side, the Egyptian civilization dates back
3,000 years. The Indus Valley Civilization also had well-
planned towns for its time, but most of them were
ruined by the flood.

considered to be the second or third largest Muslim
community in the world, ranking higher than many

produces more than 1,000 films, far more than
