Generally, a photographer is the one capturing the scene and the 
subject of a styled shoot. A stylist ensures the photographer has a 
perfectly put-together look, including the carefully selected and styled 
clothing, shoes and accessories. The concept of the shoot is hashed 
out among the creatives, photographer and stylist before the shoot 
even takes place so everyone is on the same page. The fashion stylist 
is responsible for creating looks that are agreed upon, making sure 
each and every detail is exactly as it should be. While this is a 
creative process, it can be extremely stressful! Try finding a fabulous 
sweater and winter coat in July! It’s not as easy as it seems.

Fashion stylists are responsible for sourcing clothes that will be used 
in the shoot weeks before the shoot. Sounds easy, right? But it’s not 
so much (see winter coat mentioned above!). The stylist must prep 
before the shoot to acquire all these pieces, and that requires 
countless hours contacting showrooms and pr agencies, shopping in 
stores (often for 12 hours or more at a time), keeping track of sizes, 
budgets and purchases, and making sure everything remains 
organized.
