When a driver fails a Dot alcohol/drug test, the driver is removed from the safety-sensitive functions. Begin the process

1 Initial SAP evaluation
The very first step is the evaluation by a
substance abuse professional who evaluates the
individual.
2 Follow-up Evaluation
The individual must follow the education and treatment plan
created for the individual by the substance abuse professionals.

3 Treatment/Education
An interval between the initial and follow-up evaluations depends on the education
and treatment plan prescribed to the individual by the SAP.
Return-to-duty testing
In this step, the individual must initiate DOT return to duty for a drug or alcohol test.
45 Follow-up testing
The individual may return to duty testing for sensitive functions and thus, return to
the employee status again with the unannounced follow-ups at least six times a
year.
