Brass is a copper and zinc alloy metal with a copper 
content of 57% to 63% and a zinc content of 35% to 40%. 
Sometimes lead is all that is required. Bronze, on the 
other hand, is composed of 80 percent -88 percent 
copper and 10 percent -12 percent tin. Other metals 
such as aluminium, nickel, manganese, lead... and 
nonmetals such as phosphorus, arsenic, and silicon are 
also added to bronze. The various material combinations 
add different properties to the valves.

Cost
The cost issue is critical in this comparison because not 
all components are the same price. When comparing 
brass and bronze, brass is 3-4 times less expensive. 
This is due to the lower cost of zinc, which makes brass 
more affordable. Furthermore, the smooth surface of 
brass and its machinability reduce finishing costs 
during valve manufacturing. Bronze components, on 
the other hand, are expensive... and necessitate extra 
polish for their rough exterior polishing, raising the 
cost.

Color And 
Interface
Although copper is the primary component of 
brass and bronze, the combination of the other 
elements determines the colour. The primary 
colour of the brass valve is typically pale yellow or 
gold-like but dull. The bronze valves are a reddish-
brown colour. Both types, however, can have other 
finishes, such as chrome plating. You can match the 
valve interface to your chosen theme by selecting a 
natural colour or different finishes.

Media And Uses
This is especially important when deciding between brass and 
bronze valves. For specific applications, each type has different 
strengths and weaknesses. Brass valves, for example, are the 
best choice for the plumbing industry and potable water. It also 
works very well with natural gas and oils. However, it may cause 
concern for food and beverage manufacturers.
Bronze valves, on the other hand, can introduce harmful lead 
into the drinking water. However, if you can use a lead-free 
bronze valve, you should be fine. It's appropriate for plumbing

Brass and bronze valves are both solid and long-
lasting when it comes to durability. However, brass 
valves are slightly larger than bronze valves. Brass 
is a more durable, resistant, strong, and flexible 
metal than bronze. However, high levels of 
chlorine and salt can corrode the brass, so bronze 
is preferable in this case. To improve stability, 
consider your media first, then select the valve.

Metal Mash
Metal mash is the amount of metal that the valve mixes 
with the media. Brass contains 2-3% lead and bronze 
contains 5% or more. Because bronze contains more 
information, it spreads more metal through the media. 
For potable water, brass valves are recommended. 
Some manufacturers, however, use a lead-free material 
that complies with the Clean Water Act's lead 
restrictions. You could use something like that if you 
have it.

Heat Endurance
Brass and bronze valves both perform well in 
high temperatures. Brass has a melting point of 
1710oF (930oC) and bronze has a melting point 
of 1590oF. (865oC). As a result, brass can 
withstand slightly higher temperatures than 
bronze. Brass, on the other hand, is more 
efficient at high temperatures but less so at 
low temperatures.
