People often use the sentence, “I want to be healthy” and by that they
usually mean to be free from diseases. Health and illness are slippery
terms that are often co-related. However, health is far more than being
free from diseases or absence of discomforts. Health is actually a

People who engage in unhealthy habits like poor quality diet, smoking
and physical inactivity are at an increased risk of premature death or
health decline. However, do not wait until you are sick to put things right.
Achieving an overall wellness is a lifelong process and should be a daily
commitment. Practicing only one or two aspects of healthy living can
never make your situations better. And neglecting them completely can
lead to various health problems. Physical and mental health are the two

throughout the day. You have to limit alcohol intake and quit smoking
that will contribute to healthy living. You need to get adequate amount of
sleep so that your body can function properly. Without proper rest you

saturated fats, processed foods and sugar will lead to extra pounds.

diseases.
Exercise
Physical inactiveness is a prominent cause of many chronic diseases. Aim
for at least 30 minutes of exercise in most days of the week. Exercise can
be any form like aerobics, dance, running or strength training. Exercises
strengthen your bones, help to manage weight, control blood pressure and
relieve stress. Along with physical exercises you have to exercise your
mind as well. Read different types of books, do crosswords or practice
meditation. Knitting or gardening are also great exercises that can keep
you away from stress.
Factors responsible for mental wellbeing
Mental health is a person’s social, emotional and psychological
wellbeing. To lead a healthy lifestyle contribution of mental health is as
much important as the physical one. Mental health is not only about
absence of anxiety, depression or any other disorders. It depends on your
ability to:

Adapt to adversity
Enjoy life
Manage stress and tension
Physical and mental health are interlinked. To manage your depression
and stress you need to remain active, socialize with people and nurture a
hobby.
