Individuals with higher emotional intelligence are highly resilient and strong-
willed during indeterminate times. They show a great deal of empathy even
when steering through tough or conflicting circumstances. These people are
indeed special. They often tend to be tranquil and calm amidst chaos.
Instead of dodging or overriding their emotions, these people advance the
skills to navigate them skillfully and securely, and nurture the inner strength
to deal with painful and difficult emotions. They realize that states of mind
and emotions are not problems or obstacles to reason with, but they are vital
signals from the body and mind that allow a person to function properly in life.
Emotional IQ allows a person to observe, recognize, feel, comprehend,
understand, and manage their emotional state and emotions. The
development starts with one’s own inner life, but then it also extends to
others. Through emotional IQ, a person can develop different abilities
pertaining to self-awareness, empathy, motivation, self-control, and vital
social skills.
When anyone hears the term intelligence in the modern world, they
immediately think of how capable they are in thinking efficiently. However, as
most of us learn through our day-to-day lives, mental intelligence alone
cannot help us survive the storms we face, nor can it ascertain our material
success or inner fulfillment. It is essentially our emotional depth and
intelligence that allow us to truly attain wisdom over the years.
While it is correct that emotional IQ (or EQ) and wisdom are somewhat
different, they are still profoundly connected. These potentials work together
to make a human being who is truly evolved from the inside. Such a person
can understand practical realities of life and also feel things deeply, move
through life meaningfully, and respond to life’s challenges consciously.
Wisdom takes the goodness of emotional IQ and pushes it one step further.
Wisdom is different from either intellectual knowledge or emotional awareness.
It is the ability to see through the deeper truths of realities and life itself to act
in perfect harmony with them. One attains a depth of wisdom through lived
experience, difficult and intricate circumstances, reflection, and humility. It
allows a person to see diverse layers of truth within various situations of life.
Through emotional IQ, you may be able to manage your feelings, but it is
through wisdom that you acquire the ability to construe them appropriately so
that you can act and make choices from a space of inner clarity and balance.
A prominent feature of emotional IQ is that it allows you to comprehend what
you feel inside, which is a dynamic tool for navigating life and reality. However,
wisdom enables you to put your feelings in the right place, to discern and
resolve whether you should act on a particular feeling or not. For instance, you
may experience fury and rage when you feel that you have been exposed to
bias and wrongness. In such circumstances, your emotional intelligence will
help you to deal with your feelings beneficially, and your wisdom will allow you
to channelize your hurt spirits for the greater good instead of acting purely in a
destructive manner.
