What is E-invoicing under
E-invoicing is an electroniGc auStheTntic?ation mechanism that is
implemented under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system. It
involves registering all B2B invoices and export invoices generated by a
business with an Invoice Registration Portal (IRP) like IRIS IRP and
obtaining a unique identification number for each invoice, known as the
Invoice Reference Number (IRN). The IRP also creates a digitally signed
QR code with select invoice details and digitally signs the uploaded
invoice data, resulting in an e-invoice that has an associated IRN and a
digitally signed QR code printed on it. Once an IRN is generated and the
invoice is authenticated, its details become instantly available on the
GST portal and EWB portal.

• Easy reconciliatPione ofr acfcoounrtsm: Onea of nthec bigege?st challenges faced by
businesses under GST is matching their purchase data with the
supplier’s returns reflected in GSTR 2A and GSTR 2B. With e-invoicing,
businesses can overcome this challenge as the auto-population of data

2. Improved financial flexibility: With e-invoicing, businesses have access
to credit opportunities as many lenders have started building their credit
models around GST data. This provides businesses with easier access to
financing options like bill discounting or financing, improving their financial
flexibility and stability
3. Real-time tracking: E-invoicing provides businesses with real-time
visibility into their invoices, allowing them to stay on top of their finances
and quickly address any issues that may arise. This helps businesses to be
proactive and make informed decisions, leading to better financial
management.

4. Automation: E-invoicing simplifies the GST filing process by auto-
populating most of the details, reducing the time and effort required for
manual data entry. This automation not only saves businesses time but
also minimizes the risk of errors, improving the accuracy of the filings.
Also, by automating the invoicing process, businesses can increase their
output and efficiency, freeing up time and resources for other important
tasks. This can result in higher productivity and improved profitability.

5. Improved supplier relations: E-invoicing makes it easier for businesses to
track their invoices, reducing the risk of disagreements and denials of
invoices. This can improve supplier relations, leading to more efficient and
productive partnerships. E-invoicing provides businesses with a
professional and efficient platform for managing invoices, improving the
customer experience, and enhancing client satisfaction. With the ability to
quickly and easily track invoices, businesses can provide their customers
with the information they need to make informed decisions, leading to
improved relationships and repeat business.

intention of the government was to reduce fake invoice generation and
bring in more transparency. And now, with the implementation of the e-
invoicing mandate, the invoice data gets registered with Government-
authorized IRPs like IRIS IRP. Thus, security is maintained and there’s less
scope for payment frauds, invoice data getting mishandled, or fake invoice
generation. With e-invoicing, businesses can access their invoicing data
from anywhere, at any time, with a secure internet connection. This allows
for improved flexibility and enables businesses to manage their finances
from remote locations, providing added convenience and peace of mind.

receive payments faster and more efficiently, reducing the time it takes to
receive payments and freeing up valuable working capital. Additionally,
businesses may also receive discounts for early payments, improving their
bottom line.
9. Increased competitiveness: By adopting e-invoicing under GST,
businesses can stay ahead of the competition by using the latest
technology and streamlining their operations. This can improve their
competitiveness and help them stay ahead in a rapidly changing business
environment.
10
10. GST Compliance: With e-invoicing, businesses can ensure compliance
with GST regulations, reducing the risk of penalties and fines for non-
compliance. This provides peace of mind and ensures that businesses are
always operating within the bounds of the law.
Conclusion
In conclusion, e-invoicing under GST is an essential tool for businesses in
today’s digital age. The benefits of e-invoicing are numerous and can be
transformative for businesses of all sizes, from small start-ups to large
corporations. E-invoicing helps businesses improve their financial
performance by reducing costs, increasing efficiency, and providing real-
time insights into their invoicing processes.
